Screw the Board!

Screw the Board!

East coast was cold, rainy and depressing for many days. Started to feel the weight of all the TODO lists that keep getting longer. We got a letter from our condo board about not grilling on the balcony, although we have been doing it for 5 years. All I wanted was to be back to conversations under the stars with a steak grilling over the fire. Well I figured out a way to do that, and screw the board! Grilling in the fireplace is the next best thing! [1/25/2012]

Letting go of the past

Letting go of the past

Our second week in DC we were confronted with the past - our past lives, our past apartment, our memories and all the items on our never ending TO DO list that has been accumulating over the past 5 months. We spent a week going through stuff we left behind, tossing a lot of it. One thing you learn travelling long term is that it doesn't matter - your memories are always with you and you should spend your energy living in the present instead of remembering the past! I spent about 1/2 day going through a large box full of albums of old photographs to double check they are all scanned so I can throw them away. And as I was freeing myself from my stuff, I felt myself letting go of the past and embracing the future. [1/24/2012]

What now?

What now?

We have been back for a week, but I had more time on the road! The east coast is in a deep freeze this week, we cant seem to warm up our place even with the furnace and fireplace. Having to resort to wine and vodka to deal with the cold and stress. Oh wait no, that's just for fun...[1/19/2012]

Echoes of the past

Echoes of the past

After 5 months on the road we arrived back to DC. Our tenant moved out so our condo is empty. We walked into our former home with no furniture, bare walls, and our steps echoing of the ceiling. It felt strange at first - it didn't feel like we lived here for so many years - it felt foreign. After unloading the huge pile of firewood that we brought back from the West Coast, we sat on the floor of our living room with some wine, a fire and internet. [1/10/12]

Austin party street

Austin party street

Austin was deserted on a Wednesday morning. Remnants from a party in the form of glitter and confetti were still littering the streets, but most of the bars were closed at 11am. There is one street which is THE party street, with clubs and bars in historic buildings. The rest is mainly suburbs. We did visit the ORIGINAL whole foods. [1/6/2011]

Sunset on a Venice roof

Sunset on a Venice roof

Last night in LA we watched the sunset from the rooftop of a friends apartment building. We just couldn't get enough of the west coast sunsets, they are an amazing explosion of color every night. [1/4/2011]
